WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

BEN AMOS 6

Swept up behind the back four well enough and caught a few dangerous crosses but should he have been beaten by Zohore’s near post shot?

OSCAR THRELKELD 7.5

A much more thorough examination of the young full-back than the Charlton game but he passed it. Made some very important challenges.

DAVID WHEATER 7.5

Once again, led by example at the back. His partnership with Rob Holding is looking solid and, crucially, he is looking fit once again.

ROB HOLDING 7

But for one blemish in the build up to the first goal Holding was excellent, digging in and showing he can do the ugly stuff too.

NIALL MAHER 6

Had looked very secure until a daft decision to make an aerial challenge on Noone on the edge of the Cardiff penalty box. Changed the game.

JOSH VELA 6.5

Much more involved in the first half than the second, Vela added a bit of extra mobility to his game in Wales. Chipped in with the defensive stuff well.

DERIK OSEDE 7

Once again the Spaniard’s reading of the game was impeccable. Could have used the ball a little better but it wasn’t a day for finesse.

NEIL DANNS 6

Ran hard, has a good attitude and gave Threlkeld a bit of defensive help after replacing Mark Davies on the right. Gave ball away for first goal, though.

DARREN PRATLEY 5

The skipper was involved in an off-the-ball clash which gave him concussion. It hadn’t been a great game for him to that point either.

ZACH CLOUGH 7

Took his free-kick superbly and got involved defensively too. Had a couple of second-half opportunities which could have made the game safe.

EMILE HESKEY 6

Held the ball up well in the first half but cut an increasingly isolated figure after Wanderers went down to 10 men. Eventually ran out of steam.

Subs: Garratt 32 (for Pratley) – Unlucky to concede penalty 7 Woolery 58 (for Heskey) – Two big chances missed 6.

Not used: Rachubka, Dobbie, Finney, Thomas, Walker.

CARDIFF CITY (4-4-2)

DAVID MARSHALL 8

LEE PELTIER 6

SEANN MORRISON 6

MATTHEW CONNOLLY 6

SCOTT MALONE 6

CRAIG NOONE 6

STUART O’KEEFE 7

JOE RALLS 5

PETER WHITTINGHAM 7

ANTHONY PILKINGTON 5

KENNETH ZOHORE 6

Subs: Ameobi 6, 45 (for Ralls), Lawrence 5, 66 (for Zohore), Harris 80 (for Connolly).

Not used: Moore, Turner, Dikgacoi, Saadi.

Referee: Lee Collins 5/10

The Surrey ref got the red card for Maher right and was correct in awarding the late penalty to Cardiff. But he missed Woolery being twice pulled back by Morrison, already on a booking. Poor.
