WANDERERS have pleaded with fans to stick with them after relegation by cutting season ticket prices by 10 per cent.

After weeks of speculation over what measures would be taken to keep fans on board in League One, the Whites announced today costs would be trimmed in all areas of the Macron Stadium.

Adult season tickets in North Upper and Lower will be £280, or £12.17 per match, before the June 12 deadline.

Dean Holdsworth laid the situation out on the line to The Bolton News, admitting season ticket sales will have a huge bearing on the club’s budget next season.

With Wanderers carrying several big earners into next season from the Championship the co-owner says it will be more than a year before the new manager can start with a “clean slate”.

But if sales of season tickets are encouraging next season, the budget for new signings would be boosted directly.

In a letter addressed to supporters, Holdsworth outlined his vision for next season.

“We are well under way with our plans for making our time in League One as brief and as successful as possible,” he said. “Everyone at the club is aware of the size of the challenge of returning us back to the Championship and then to the Premier League but we will be ready when the time comes to tackle that challenge head on.

“Regardless of how well we plan, achieving our aims can only happen with fans’ support. We want to keep our financial plans for the football team and maintain a standard on the pitch.

“On the pitch, our philosophy is clear, we want players who will pull on the shirt with pride, players who will run through walls to get results, players who will be role models in our community and, most of all, we want players who will bring a winning mentality back to the club.

“This summer we are not building a squad, we are building a team, a team we can all be proud to call our own.”

Wanderers’ prices place them in mid-table compared to other clubs detailed in the BBC’s most recent Price of Football survey.

And though attendances have fallen, income from season tickets is just 1.6 per cent down compared to 2009-10 when the club was still competing in the Premier League.

Gate receipts were a small slice of the pie back then, dwarfed by top-flight television and sponsorship cash, but these days the success of the club’s sales pitch this season will have a direct impact on the money available for players next term.

Direct Debit payments, currently favoured by 55 per cent of fans, are scheduled to begin in June.

And Wanderers say they will wait to see what kind of response they get before making a decision on whether to close any upper tiers of the stadium next season.
