DAVID Lee knows he is a man in demand for the legends game.

Courted by both Team McGinlay and Team Kelly, the former winger is at the centre of a tug-of-war between the two captains for today’s showpiece event.

Still without an ounce of excess weight on him, Lee doesn’t look much different than he did when he was tearing Mike Marsh and Liverpool to shreds in that infamous FA Cup clash at Anfield just over two decades ago.

No wonder, then, he is one of the hot picks when it comes to sorting out the teams.

“They have been looking for players who have got fitness levels and who can still play football. I class myself in that category,” explained the youth team coach.

“John and Kells have been on the phone to me trying to persuade me to play for their team. There’s a bit of a bounty on it at the moment, so whoever comes up with the biggest one, I’ll play for.

“McGinlay says he’ll take me out for a meal, Kelly says he’ll take me out for two. At the moment I’m on the halfway line and I don’t know what I’ll do yet. They will probably decide.

“I have definitely got 90 minutes in me. Working with the Under-18s it’s imperative you set an example by being fit.”

Lee is impressed with the field of ex-players he could be coming up against – with more from the world of entertainment such as Bolton’s own Danny Jones and Paddy McGuinness.

All money raised on the day and the gala evening afterwards is split between the Supporters’ Trust and the Community Trust, so Lee is inviting all Wanderers fans down to the Macron from 3pm to watch a few famous names from the past.

“It’s nice for both trusts to get together, and what better way of doing it than with football?” he said.

“It speaks volumes of the club when you can attract the players who have represented this club to come back and play in such an event.

“Everybody is really excited about it.

“This club has got a tradition of remembering it’s history and what it has achieved in the past, from the days where Nat Lofthouse was scoring winning goals and lifting the FA Cup to Bruce Rioch’s team which won two promotions and reached a major cup final.

“It’s nice to look forward at what the club can achieve but it’s nice to reminisce too and remember the good times we’ve all had at Bolton Wanderers.”

Tickets for the Legends game are available on the day priced at £10 for adults, £5 for under-16s and concessions. A special family ticket (two adults, two concessions) is available for £25.
