WANDERERS have parted company with young defender Alex Finney to rush through a debut for Andrew Taylor at AFC Wimbledon today.

Phil Parkinson confirmed he came to an agreement with the 20-year-old defender to enable him to register full-back Taylor with the Football League.

The terms of the club’s embargo will mean further wheeling and dealing over the coming weeks but despite handing Finney a start in Tuesday night’s 4-2 defeat at Blackpool in the EFL Cup, the Whites boss insists the arrangement suits both parties.

“I think he’ll get a club and in normal circumstances it’s a decision we wouldn’t probably have made but in this tight-knit squad we have to be confident every player can go in and play a prolonged period,” he told The Bolton News.

“We are in a situation where numbers are important, so this was something we had to do. I felt Alex wasn’t going to figure.

“We’re looking to open up spaces all the time. We brought Andy in this week and until the end of the month it won’t be any different. We have a couple of irons in the fire.”

Finney had been offered the chance to go out on loan to Barrow last week and still train with the Whites at Lostock but turned the move down to try and find a Football League club.

Parkinson will have to adhere to the Football League’s wishes for the rest of the window and could offer other players a chance to move out on loan to gain some experience.

But the Wanderers boss is adamant he will be left with a strong hand and a squad much more balanced than the one he inherited this summer.

“It isn’t easy with all the embargo situation but it’s what we have to do to make sure we’re competitive,” he said.

“Everyone knows we’ve got no emergency loans in place this season, so you have to operate like the Premiership clubs and make sure you’ve got two players in every position to cover any eventuality.”

Taylor’s arrival is, on paper, a season-long loan from Wigan Athletic but Parkinson is treating the former Cardiff City and Middlesbrough man as a new signing.

“He will make us stronger,” he said. “It has been termed a loan but that is just what we had to do logistically to get him through the door. I’m very much looking forward to working with him long term.”
