RACHEL Whitelegg continued her red-hot scoring form for Wanderers Ladies as they raced to second place with a 5-1 win over Blackpool.

The midfielder bagged two goals as John Oliver’s side swept aside one of the division’s in-form teams.

Michelle Kirkman-Ryan also netted twice after half time with Shelley James completing the rout as Wanderers leapfrogged the Tangerines in the table.

It is tougher going for CMB Ladies at the moment, as they allowed a good opportunity to secure their first win of the campaign slip through their fingers at home to City of Manchester.

Becky Lea met Chloe Grundy’s free kick to open the scoring after just two minutes and though the visitors snatched an equaliser Grundy repeated the trick to find Anna Broadie to restore the lead.

Manchester capitalised on a defensive error to equalise for a second time and then took the lead just before the interval with a fine solo goal.

They put the game out of reach with another two in the second half – although Melissa Darby did pull one back with five minutes remaining.

Wanderers’ Under-17s beat a strong Glossop side containing several members of the Preston North End squad.

After falling behind early on, two goals from Leah Anderson and a fine finish from Chloe Greenall made it 3-1 after just 20 minutes.

Captain fantastic Murron Alldread led her side well against a strong wind in the second half and scored a fourth from just outside the penalty box.

The 4-1 win keeps up Wanderers’ 100 per cent record after five games and sees them go five points clear at the top of the table.
