WANDERERS Under-18s ended their three-match winless streak in the U18 Professional Development League with a 2-0 home win against Crystal Palace on Saturday thanks to goals from Jack Everest and Alex Samizadeh.

The young Whites started brightly and were soon in the lead when Everest headed home after the Eagles keeper saved Samizadeh’s first effort.

After the interval, Wanderers maintained pressure on the visitors and won a penalty which Harry Brockbank despatched.

However, the referee ordered a retake and the Eagles stopper saved the second effort.

Nicky Spooner’s side did double their advantage soon after, though, when Samizadeh attacked a corner to head home.

It was not all one-way traffic with Wanderers indebted to keeper Jake Turner who made two good saves to preserve their lead.

Spooner was pleased with the response to the 3-2 loss at Bristol City the previous week and told The Bolton News: “We started the game very well with good forward passing and runs.

“It was pleasing to see the attitude and character of the players after losing a 2-0 lead last week.

“The players then learnt from last week and defended well.”

The U18s are away to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, kick off 11am.
