YOU picked your all-time Burnden Park XI – but what would the players be worth in the transfer market today?

If a swaggering Paul Jones was playing at the top level today, or Nat Lofthouse was scoring goals for fun, what kind of fee could they command?

We asked two Wanderers experts, Gordon Sharrock, the former chief football writer at The Bolton News who covered the club for three decades, and Kevin Davies – the striker who made more than 400 appearances for the club, to give their valuations.

Hundreds of readers sent in their guess at what the whole team would be worth. The winner, Tracy Greenhalgh, from Breighmet, was presented with her prize before the recent win over Northampton Town at the Macron.

Super Kev's total added up to £133million, while Gordon's was a slightly heftier £158m. The average of the two is £145.5million.

Tracy’s guess was £142.5m.

Here’s a breakdown of the two teams and their valuations.

GORDON SHARROCK

GK - EDDIE HOPKINSON Small in stature, big in heart and a goalkeeper whose solidity and anticipation spread confidence throughout the defence.

Gordon’s valuation - £6m

DEF – ROY HARTLE An incredibly consistent right-back who had a fearsome reputation for an often uncompromising approach that earned him the nickname “Chopper”.

Gordon’s valuation - £5m

DEF – PAUL JONES Had the class, composure and positional sense that would have graced the international stage and that would have enhanced his reputation even higher, especially on the Continent.

Gordon’s valuation - £15m

DEF – GUDNI BERGSSON Rarely the star of the show, although his sensational strike against Barnsley will live long in the memory, but an essential cog in the wheel and a strong candidate to captain the Burnden Legends Xl

Gordon’s valuation - £6m

DEF – TOMMY BANKS Although one half of the legendary Hartle-Banks full-back partnership, there was much more to the Farnworth-born left-back. An enthusiastic student of the game.

Gordon’s valuation - £8m

MID – PER FRANDSEN The dynamic Dane was a goalscoring midfield player (hot property on the transfer market). Wanderers gave him the stage to relaunch his international career, he returned the favour 10-fold in two spells.

Gordon’s valuation - £10m

MID – PETER REID Had the world at his feet in the early days of his career before injury tested his fortitude to the limits. An old head on young shoulders, he was a stand-out England U-21 international.

Gordon’s valuation - £12m

MID – ROY GREAVES Another midfield player with a respectable goal tally – largely due to his early career when he played up front. His was consistently one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Gordon’s valuation - £8m

ATT – JOHN McGINLAY Based purely on his impact performances and goal-scoring ratio (almost a goal every other game) with Wanderers the Scot would be hot property on any transfer market.

Gordon’s valuation - £20m

ATT – FRANK WORTHINGTON Wanderers fans of a certain generation would have sky-high valuations of Worthy, who became a cult-hero in his all-too-brief spell at Burnden Park. And with good reason.

Gordon’s valuation - £18m

ATT – NAT LOFTHOUSE The one member of the Burnden Legends Xl who could justifiably be described as “world class”. The Lion of Vienna was a superstar in his day, both on the domestic and international stage.

Gordon’s valuation - £50m

Total - £158m

KEVIN DAVIES

GK – EDDIE HOPKINSON England international, although he didn’t win too many caps. Played a lot of top level games. Can I compare him to a Fraser Forster or a Ben Foster?

Davo valuation - £15m

DEF – ROY HARTLE Full-back who didn't play for England but spent almost all his career in the top flight. Very tough and uncompromising sort. Danny Simpson perhaps?

Davo valuation - £6m

DEF – PAUL JONES Never capped for England but well ahead of his time as a centre-back. John Stones-esque. Very stylish and hugely popular in Bolton.

Davo valuation - £18m

DEF – GUDNI BERGSSON Reliable, consistent, strong, reads the game well. International but not top level. Winston Reid or Ashley Williams the Premier League equivalent, maybe?

Davo valuation - £6m

DEF – TOMMY BANKS Very much in the mold of Hartle (althoguh Tommy did win England caps).  Bit like a 1950s version of Stuart Pearce?

Davo valuation - £6m

MID – PER FRANDSEN Very classy midfielder who commanded good transfer fees 10-plus years ago and would do the same these days too.

Davo valuation - £10m

MID – PETER REID Was one of England's highly rated youngsters before breaking his leg against Everton. Ended up leaving for pittance - but arguably worth a lot more.

Davo valuation - £5m

MID – ROY GREAVES Roy could play anywhere and was very consistent but only spent a bit of time at the top level. James Milner without all the England caps.

Davo valuation - £3m

ATT – FRANK WORTHINGTON Frank was a rock n roll version of Matt Le Tissier! He was nearing 30 at Bolton, though, even though he was still very capable.

Davo valuation - £7.5m

ATT – JOHN MCGINLAY John had staggering work-rate and obviously scored a lot of goals. Was 28 when he came to Bolton and quickly became a Scotland international.

Davo valuation - £9m

ATT – NAT LOFTHOUSE The Wayne Rooney or Harry Kane of his day. Bolton or England - he scored goals. I'd be surprised if anyone on the list costs more.

Davo valuation - £47.5m

Total - £133m
