KEN Anderson says the filing of the club’s accounts this week “goes a long way” towards getting the club out of a transfer embargo.

Wanderers have now posted their overdue financial details at Companies House, clearing an important first hurdle in their efforts to lift the transfer restrictions which have been in place since December 2015.

The transfer window closes in just 47 days, and concern exists over the lack of an auditor’s opinion with the published accounts to comment on the state of the business as a going concern.

Some believe the absence of such a statement flies in the face of EFL regulations and could hamper the club’s chances of emerging from the embargo in the short-term.

“We are working away at trying to get this lifted, but it is not an easy thing to do because of the legacy we inherited,” Anderson said in a column on the official website. “The filing of the accounts ticks another box and goes a long way to helping us exit in the foreseeable future.”

Anderson also commented on a £17.5m windfall due to former owner Eddie Davies, which emerged in the most recent set of accounts.

Davies is understood to have written off £5m of money owed to him in June of this year following the Whites’ promotion from League One but is owed further payments, depending on the club’s success over the coming years.

The £17.5m figure - which is separate to the £15.2m debt he originally kept in the club - is also tied to future success, namely promotion to the Premier League. But Anderson claims this too is unlikely to be called in by lifelong fan Davies.

“I am conscious that the £17.5m figure that is being attributed to Eddie on future success may not be portraying him in a good light and without going into detail, he and l have had a number of discussions on this matter and he has been extremely helpful,” he said.

“In my opinion, it is highly unlikely this amount will ever be paid. Depending on the future success of the club on the field Ed will benefit, but this is a contingent liability and was known from the outset.”
