WANDERERS ran the rule over ex-Watford striker Ogo Obi again yesterday – and could offer him a permanent deal at the Macron.

The 19-year-old was released at Vicarage Road in the summer but scored for David Lee’s Under-23s on Monday against Bristol City and featured again on Friday at Leeds United.

Phil Parkinson and Steve Parkin made a special trip to monitor his performance, alongside former Republic of Ireland international Joey O’Brien, who played an hour of the 1-0 defeat.

Nigeria-born Ogo was a target for Liverpool and Arsenal as a schoolboy and also had an extended trial at Manchester United earlier in his teens under Louis Van Gaal.

He failed to earn a new contract after making several appearances for the Hornets’ development squad last term and is now hoping to resume his career in the North West.

O’Brien stepped up his fitness levels in his own bid to win a deal and return to the club at which he made his name in English football under Sam Allardyce.

Parkinson is keen to look at free agents but wants to see them close at hand on the training ground, rather than in YouTube clips.

“We have had quite a few calls from agents and there could be one or two we look at,” he told The Bolton News. “Joe has worked hard and we’ve given him some more playing time in the Under-23s along with Obi, so we’ll go from there.”
