MARK Beevers has issued a call to arms for Wanderers fans as he prepares to face his former club Sheffield Wednesday.

Times have been tough at the Macron this season as Phil Parkinson’s side struggle to adapt to life back in the Championship – but the big defender has been impressed at how the levels of support have stood up.

Another healthy crowd, supplemented by 4,800 travelling Owls, is expected tomorrow as the Wanderers seek that elusive first victory.

Beevers, who came through the youth ranks at Hillsborough, has appealed for Whites fans to keep the faith tomorrow afternoon.

“The fans’ support really does mean a lot and I know the lads will all agree with me on that front,” he said. “Since I’ve been here, I’ve always said that if the fans get behind the team, then they can play a massive part in helping us to get results.

“My message to the supporters would be to please stick with us, get behind us and you could be the difference.

“I know it’s frustrating for them, I really do – they want to see results and that hasn’t been happening.

“We will give that to them though and we’re determined to do so.”

Beevers, speaking to the official match-day programme, reckons belief in the dressing room that Wanderers can compete at the higher level has not waned despite the winless start to the campaign.

“We feel that we have got everything right – we’re strong-minded, we’re working for each other, our team morale is really good – we’re just missing that first result,” he said.. “We’ve got a good group of lads and the spirit amongst the boys is still really good, which is what makes a good team.

“You win, lose and draw together as a unified team and whatever comes your way, you deal with it and pick yourself up ready for the next game.

“We have been doing that, but we’ve just not had that luck yet.”

Fellow defender David Wheater was also out on the campaign trail yesterday.

“There is going to be a big crowd on Saturday and we want to make sure that all the Bolton fans go home happy,” he said.

“It would be brilliant to see lots of our fans in there and help us get the points.

“With another home game coming up next week, it gives us an opportunity to build on what we hope will be a positive result.”
