FORMER Wanderers star Chris Eagles has linked up with his former manager Owen Coyle at Ross County.

The 31-year-old ex-Manchester United and Burnley midfielder had been training with Port Vale over the last few weeks, and had been expected to sign a short-term deal with the League Two side.

But in a surprise move yesterday it was revealed Eagles will try his luck in the Scottish Premier League with a trial at County, where Coyle recently took charge.

Eagles turned down a £1.2million move to Rangers in 2010 whilst playing at Turf Moor, signing for Wanderers a matter of months later.

Burnley said in a statement at the time a move to Glasgow would “not be in his best interests.”

Eagles played 106 games for Wanderers, scoring 19 goals, but fell out with Dougie Freedman and was released in 2014.

He has since struggled to find regular football at Blackpool, Charlton Athletic, Bury and Accrington Stanley – but played 20 times for Port Vale last season and was offered the chance to remain in the Potteries by Vale boss Neil Aspin.

“He trained for a couple of days last week and I had a chat with him and put an offer to him,” he explained to the Stoke Sentinel earlier this week. “So, the ball is in his court. But you can only wait for so long. So, we will see what the next few days brings. If he’s not decided in another couple of days then I would say that nothing will happen on that.”

Coyle has also appointed Wanderers legend John McGinlay as his head of recruitment at Ross County.

The former Burnden Park striker will remain based in England.
