WANDERERS’ Under-23s have hit the top of the league after beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 this afternoon at Middlewood Road.
First teamers Andy Taylor and Harry Charsley featured from the start for David Lee and Tony Kelly’s side, who have gone 10 games unbeaten, winning nine and drawing once.
And they surged to the summit of the northern section of the Professional Development League thanks to goals from Connor Hall and Jeff King.
Hall, who also leads the division’s goal-scorers on 15, headed home just before the break to equalise Freddie Neilsen’s fourth minute effort.
King made it two early in the second half, finishing off smartly from just inside the penalty box, and the young Whites controlled the game from there to hold on for victory.
