WANDERERS Under-18s' scoring run was halted at Nottingham Forest on Saturday when they slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

After hitting six goals in successive wins, the front line drew a blank in the East Midlands despite having good spells of possession.

The U18 Professional Development League clash started evenly with both teams having good spells with the ball but without creating openings.

The young Whites did go close, though, on 20 minutes when Luca Navarro got in behind the Forest back line and crossed for Matty Barnes but his effort went just wide of the post.

That sparked a good period for Wanderers but they were restricted to shots from distance as the game remained goalless at the break.

The hosts began brightest after the interval and pressured Wanderers but the defence stood firm.

As the game became stretched, Barnes and Navarro both had chances to break the deadlock but were denied by some good goalkeeping.

It looked like it was heading for a stalemate until, with 12 minutes to go, Forest broke on the counter attack and Luke McCormick scored from just inside the Whites' box to seal all three points.

Nicky Spooner's side will look to bounce back on home soil on Saturday when they host Sheffield United, kick off 11am.
