DAVID Wheater insists Wanderers can take something from defeat at QPR.

Phil Parkinson’s side went down to 10 men after Mark Little’s dismissal, conceding twice in the last 20 minutes to slip to their 10th away defeat of the campaign.

Wheater feels there is some reason for optimism, however, with a home game against fellow strugglers Sunderland coming up tomorrow.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t get the three points but it was hard after the sending off,” he said.

“I think it was a bit harsh on Litts (Little). It was over the ball but I don’t think he really touched him.

“We struggled with the 10 men but I think we gave a good account of ourselves.

“We had chances. We have been working on set pieces and been told we need to get better at them. I think we were.”

Wheater also had some words of encouragement for Tyler Walker, the Nottingham Forest loanee who played as Wanderers’ lone front man at Loftus Road.

“I was impressed with Tyler – he was very strong,” he said.

“I have played with Nedum Onuoha in the England youth teams, who he was up against, and I know how strong he is, but he smashed into him and got straight back up again.”
