WANDERERS Under-18s stretched their winning run to eight games with a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest this afternoon.

Goals from trialist Lewis Fensome and Eddie Brown sealed victory as Nicky Spooner’s side maintained top spot in the U18 Professional Development League Two North table.

And the win means they are assured of a place in the top two and a spot in the play-offs whatever happens in their final two matches – the last of which on Saturday, April 21 is against second-placed Leeds United.

The young Whites started brightly at the Eddie Davies Academy and controlled the tempo early on.

Their game plan of sitting off Forest and looking to counter-attack worked well with Brown and Cameron Moore winning possession several times and breaking at pace.

When the hosts did concede possession, they were quick to win the ball back and put the visitors under pressure.

And their reward for a strong start came on 20 minutes when Forest’s goalkeeper dropped Ronan Darcy’s corner and Fensome was first to pounce on the loose ball and break the deadlock.

In the second half, Dennis Politic replaced Darcy and was a threat running at the Forest defence.

But they had to wait until 65 minutes to double their advantage when Brown broke onto a ball from Luca Connell and rounded the keeper to score for the second match in succession.

After that, Wanderers were comfortable and could have increased their lead.

Politic saw a free kick come back off the bar and both he and Navarro had further chances before the end.
