PHIL Parkinson is desperate to see one of his players produce some magic to save Wanderers’ season.

Faced with one final shot at avoiding relegation on Sunday, the Bolton boss is in dire need of inspiration. Wanderers have scored just three goals in seven games since the international break, and taken one point from a possible 21.

Nothing but a win against Nottingham Forest will be good enough to avoid the drop, and then only if others – namely Burton and Barnsley – fail to beat their respective opponents.

Parkinson feels his side will need something out of the ordinary this weekend to lift the gloom and has already indicated he will name an attacking line-up.

“It’s okay talking about putting your bodies on the line – but what about one of our lads producing something which results in a goal?” he reasoned.

“Burton worked hard but their midfield player burst through and smashed one in the top corner for the first goal. That’s putting the onus on yourself. Don’t wait for someone else to come up with something - take control.

“When was the last time someone produced a real moment of quality to give us a lift in the game?

“We have been lacking that. But we need to find it for the Forest game. We cannot go down with a whimper, we have to go down fighting.”

Picking the players up after the Burton debacle is the manager’s first course of action but he admits there is little else he can try on the training ground to try and break the cycle of poor performances and results.

“We have tried everything – giving the lads days off, bringing them in, videos, meetings, extra training, we have done it all. And in this recent run it isn’t working,” he said.

“The lads have to take responsibility against Forest. We can’t waste that opportunity.”

Off the field, Wanderers will hold their long-awaited AGM this morning at the Macron Stadium, where a number of business matters are likely to be discussed by chairman Ken Anderson and board consultant Paul Aldridge.
