AFTER nine months of trials and tribulations in the season, Wanderers go into the final fixture still grimly clinging to their Championship status.

Second-bottom, they know they must beat Nottingham Forest at the Macron tomorrow and hope at least two other results elsewhere favour them.

That may appear unlikely but while hope remains, Whites manager Phil Parkinson is calling for one last big push to get themselves over the line.

“I’ve had some huge games obviously but this has got to be up there,” he told The Bolton News. “It’s a pivotal game and we know how much it means to everybody to stay in the division and we’ll do everything we can.

“It hasn’t gone for us recently, we haven’t deserved the points but we’ve got to make sure that win, lose or draw at the weekend we walk off the pitch with our heads held high knowing we’ve done everything we can to take care of our own situation at the Macron Stadium.

“The pressure has intensified because there are no other chances after this weekend, this is it, this is the opportunity.

“With the recent run of games we’re probably fortunate to have another chance, and it is a realistic chance because the other teams have got tough games.”

Last weekend’s loss at one of those other teams, Burton Albion, not only decimated many supporters’ optimism levels but also means the Whites’ fate could be decided elsewhere.

But, whether they succeed and avoid slipping back into League One, Parkinson insists on leaving any recriminations aside, preferring to focus on everyone connected with the club coming together for one last push tomorrow.

“The supporters have got to come in and make sure they haven’t got the hangover of last weekend’s defeat because that’s going to be no good for anybody,” he added. “It’s gone and the discussions and debates will be for after this game.

“We’ve got to focus all our energy – and so have the supporters – on one last big effort to try to keep this great club in the division.

“I don’t want to talk about what’s gone wrong right now, I want the players ready, I want the supporters ready and all the staff ready to give one last almighty effort.

“If it’s good enough on the day then fantastic, if it’s not then we’ll have to take our medicine and move forward as a football club.”
