Andre Moritz out for up to six weeks
WANDERERS have been dealt another injury blow ahead of tonight’s Championship clash with Derby County following news midfielder Andre Moritz will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a groin injury.
The Brazilian playmaker has endured a frustrating start to his Whites career after joining from Crystal Palace in the summer, and is yet to start.
Now he will have to wait even longer for a full debut after scans revealed a muscle tear after he was injured in the warm-up before Saturday’s game against Leeds.
The 27-year-old tweeted the news on Sunday and the length of his absence was confirmed by boss Dougie Freedman yesterday.
He said: “Andre tweaked his groin just before the game on Saturday.
“We didn’t think it was too much of a concern so he sat on the bench.
“He went for a scan three or four hours later and it has shown up he has a grade two tear, so he is obviously disappointed.
“It comes just as he was looking good but that seems to be the way it is going right now for one or two players.
“It is anything from three to six weeks out.
“I have it in my head it will be after the next international break.
“He is a good professional and he will get his head down and get back.
“It’s a blow for him because he has joined a new club and wants to impress.”
Craig Davies could also miss out tonight with Freedman rating him 50-50 to be on the bench as he continues to struggle with an ankle injury.
He was absent on Saturday and has sat out several days in training.
Freedman added: “Craig Davies still feels a bit of pain in the ankle he injured.
“He went for a second opinion yesterday and is 50-50 whether we put him on the bench.
“He has not trained for three or four days so I’m not sure whether he is capable of starting.”
