  • Wanderers starting line-up vs Barnsley: Lonergan, McNaughton, Knight, Ream, Baptiste, Spearing, Pratley, Eagles, M Davies, Danns, Mason

4:57pm

All done here - 1-0 to Wanderers.

4:43pm

Medo on for Eagles

4:42pm

Brilliant tackle from Kevin McNaughton as Jason Scotland  bore in on goal.

4:38pm

Barnsley claim for a penalty against Danns - nearly turned hero to zero there.

4:28pm

Great finish. It had been coming. Curled right footed into the top corner.

4:28pm

"Freedman, Freedman sign him up" - The Wanderers fans.

4:25pm

Danns!

4:24pm

Ream left-footed blast turned aside by Steele.

4:23pm

Attendance: 12,484 (1,838)

4:22pm

This is much better from Wanderers. Tempo better this half, football better so far too.

4:21pm

Great save by Steele to push over Knight's header.

4:14pm

Lonergan makes another save from Dawson after Wanderers were caught on the break.

4:10pm

Pratley clearly has been given orders to play further forward this half.

4:08pm

Back underway at Oakwell. Few wi fi problems seem to have been dealt with.

3:47pm

Ream header pushed away by Steele. Pratley follow up blocked on the line by Perkins.

3:46pm

Ream lost O'Grady - his shot was straight at Lonergan, but it's another save for the Wanderers keeper to make.

3:44pm

Another great save from Lonergan, diving full length to push away Jim O'Brien's long ranger.

3:39pm

Ramage header pushed away well by Lonergan. Rebound volleyed over by Wiseman. Best chances of the game so far.

3:38pm

Important intervention by Ream at the near post after cross from Wiseman.

3:36pm

Pratley played in on goal by Eagles, puts the ball into net, but is ruled offside.

3:34pm

Nice skill by O’Brien to turn past Davies but his shot goes high, wide and (less than) handsome.

3:34pm

Danns curls a shot from 25 yards, bounces awkwardly in front of Steele but he pushes it away.

3:31pm

Pratley played in on goal by Eagles, puts the ball into net, but is ruled offside.

3:28pm

Pratley escapes with no punishment after a foul on O'Brien. Would have been a fifth booking.

3:28pm

Wanderers fans chanting some famous names of the club's past, from Campo to Okocha.

3:26pm

Fairly even start - Barnsley relying heavily on two heavyweights up front. Eagles has done quite well so far for Wanderers, and looks lively.

3:23pm

Neil Danns just ended up clattering into the touchline boards trying to retrieve a pass. Referee stopped play to make sure he was okay.

3:23pm

Jim O'Brien shot from 20 yards - again straight at Lonergan.

3:19pm

Barnsley struggle to clear their lines - but danger ends when Davies blasts a shot high and wide from the edge of the box.

3:17pm

Ramage gets on the end of a Kennedy free-kick. His header straight at Lonergan.

3:15pm

Scotland nearly gets a chance at the other end, wrestling his way out of a challenge with McNaughton. Lonergan was quickly off his line.

3:12pm

Bad backpass by Dawson almost gives Mason a chance. Steele out to punt clear.

3:08pm

Curling shot from O'Grady drifts well wide. Nothing for Lonergan to worry about.

3:06pm

Perkins crosses after good work from O'Grady - no-one there for Barnsley.

3:03pm

And we're underway at Oakwell.

2:59pm

Danny Wilson being welcomed back to Oakwell - not exactly the loudest set of home fans I've ever heard.

2:58pm

Good following of Whites fans today - believe around 1,400 were expected. Maybe a few more considering the decent weather.

2:46pm

Plenty of work to get through today - Matchday Live, a match report on the whistle and three pages to fill for The Bolton News. Good job I eased up on the Snowballs yesterday.

2:38pm

2:38pm

Usual festive stuff being ploughed out by Barnsley on the tannoy but can't help fell they peaked too early. Fairytale of New York arrived at 1.58pm. We're now up to Westlife..

Can a manager have a "best team" any more?

Is the game so quick and intense - and especially so in the Championship - that it is impossible to name the same team week in, week out?

Some managers do it. Others don't.

Have put my theory on Knight replacing Mills into the ether on Twitter. I await the tidal wave of scorn...

A few words from Wanderers fans on the team...

2:10pm

Barnsley: Steele, O'Grady, Wiseman, Hassell, Scotland, Perkins, Cranie, Kennedy, O'Brien, Dawson, Ramage

2:08pm

Subs for Wanderers: Lee-Barrett, Mills, Medo, Lee, Hall, Beckford, Moritz

2:08pm

Interesting decision on Mills - he is on four yellows, so was in danger of missing out on the Leicester game if he got another. With McNaughton heading back to Cardiff, that could have left Wanderers short at the back.

2:06pm

I make that three changes - Knight in for Mills, Pratley in for Chung-Yong and Mark Davies in for Moritz.

2:05pm

Team to face Barnsley: Lonergan, McNaughton, Knight, Ream, Baptiste, Spearing, Pratley, Eagles, M Davies, Danns, Mason

2:03pm

That was the problem against Charlton last time out - lots of possession but not a great deal done with it.

2:00pm

But with Barnsley bottom of the league and missing a few key players I hear, this could be a great chance for Wanderers - IF they can get on the attack.

1:59pm

If it's the one that laboured against Boro or Charlton, then I can do without it...

1:59pm

Whether it remains pleasant may hinge on which Wanderers turn up today.

1:57pm

Very pleasant day here at Oakwell. Drove through some mist and fog in Nottingham but it's bright as a button in South Yorkshire.

1:55pm

Good afternoon - hope everyone had a good Christmas!

The disappointment of knight starting would have gone 4-1-4-1 with davies and moritz with spearing sitting deep or 4-4-2 with beckford and mason. Seems like when people do well they are dropped. Disappointed with the team if im perfectly honest. Only one positive and that's mark davies starting.

I see we have the usual retoric from D. EFF.again this week.He hopes it's quote "third time lucky against new managers","takes belief that Bolton can duplicate their late season run like last season" unquote. So in actual fact all he's doing is wishing and hoping. With his negative approach since he arrived Iv'e been doing some wishing and hoping myself that Bolton would get rid of the afore mentioned D.EFF.One striker up front against the bottom of the league says it all.

I like young hungry players, so il sign thirty year old has been from Leicester. And loan out an England under 21 striker. I don't yet know my best line up, if I do it will probably include two players playing there last game for me. We're improving even though we're three points worse of than this time last year. The bolton fans can see what we're trying to do here even though there is less and less at every home game. Moritz is my Christmas present to the fans just watch him go. even though I'm not playing him .

Come on BEN wake up stop sucking up and ask proper questions PLEASE !
