DOUGIE Freedman has apologised to Wanderers fans after a demoralising 7-1 hiding at the hands of Reading.
Wanderers fell to their heaviest defeat in 32 years at the Madejski Stadium, leaving the manager facing a barrage of criticism from the club’s fans.
The last time the Whites suffered such a mauling was at the end of the 1981-82 season, against QPR at Loftus Road, Adam Le Fondre grabbed a hat-trick for the Royals, with Pavel Pogreabnyak, Hope Akpan and Nick Blackman adding the others. David Ngog scrambled scant consolation at the bitter end.
And Freedman pulled no punches when he assessed the result after the final whistle, admitting that the fans deserve a lot better.
“There’s no way I’m ducking out of this situation – I’ll be honest and it was completely embarrassing. I agree with the fans, no problem,” he said.
“My message is simply sorry to the football fans who travelled down to watch us.
“In the morning we’ll discuss exactly how we are going to move forward.”
