WANDERERS midfielder Medo believes manager Dougie Freedman has the strength of character to turn around the team’s fortunes and admits the players need to shoulder some blame for the disappointing results this season.

The Sierra Leone international has been a regular fixture in the team with 29 appearances this campaign.

And he is just as disappointed as anyone with the team’s return of 30 points from their 31 Championship matches.

But he says there needs to be unity in the camp to reverse form that has seen the team fail to win in their last nine league outings and is backing Freedman to ensure the togetherness remains in the embattled squad.

The 26-year-old said: “I really do feel for him (Freedman) a lot. He has been working hard and pushing us.

“In most of the games we do play well, but we make simple mistakes and he is getting the criticism.

“I know he is a strong character and he will keep us going.

“Right now we are going through a hard time, but we need to stick together and if we do, I believe we will bounce back. I believe if we keep doing what we are doing right and push out the little mistakes, it will happen.

“Sometimes you have this kind of season.

“We need to be strong and we need the supporters around us.

“As players we need to keep working hard and we will get what we deserve.”

Medo has started five of the last six matches for Wanderers and while he left Millwall frustrated they could not hold on for three points on Saturday, he says it was important not to lose to another team at the wrong end of the table.

He added: “For parts of the game we had them, but they got the goal at the end and it was really frustrating.

“However, we have got to keep going.

“It is a difficult place to play, so overall I am happy we didn’t lose the game.”

It might well have been more had Wanderers’ scorer, Lukas Jutkiewicz, netted from the penalty spot to double the advantage inside the last quarter-of-an-hour.

The loan striker apologised for his miss afterwards but Medo is backing him to bounce back quickly and continue to show the form that has brought him two goals his first three starts for the Whites.

The midfielder said: “He was on top of his game and he had scored the goal, so he was sure about the penalty and took it.

“I am sure he will get over it (the miss) – he has been in these type of circumstances many times.

“It was a great goal and he is a great player. I am happy for him that he is doing well.

“To score a goal like he did shows he is a good character. I just hope he keeps going.”
