WANDERERS development squad beat Oldham 4-2 in the Manchester FA Senior Cup at The County ground in Leyland today.
Rob Hall gave the Whites an early lead after just 12 minutes when he latched on to a Zach Clough pass to coolly slot home.
The lead was doubled four minutes later when Conor Wilkinson dispossessed Oldham stopper Joel Coleman before curling home from distance.
Jamie Fullarton’s side looked in good shape but within 60 seconds Jack Tuomy halved the deficit for the Latics, firing home past Ross Fitzsimons.
The goals kept on coming in a frantic opening quarter of the game and Clough restored Wanderers’ two-goal advantage when he raced into the box and rifled home into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 3-1 on 20 minutes.
Amari Morgan-Smith scored after an indirect free-kick for Oldham five minutes later to again reduce the arrears but a sixth first-half goal went the way of the Whites on the half-hour mark.
George Iliev saw a penalty saved by Coleman but was on hand to despatch the rebound into the net and Fullarton’s side had their two-goal cushion back at the interval.
Both sides hit the woodwork in the second period with Wiliinson going closest for the Whites.
But there were no further goals meaning Wanderers kicked off their cup campaign with a home victory.
