GREG Halford is back on Wanderers’ radar and could link up with the club before this weekend’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Nottingham Forest utility man came close to signing on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day but the deal collapsed after Fulham failed to sign Jermaine Beckford.

Halford has not featured at all for Forest this season but has carved out a reputation for being one of the most versatile players in the division.

Featuring for the likes of Portsmouth, Reading, Wolves, Sunderland and Colchester he has played in nearly every outfield position.

But it could be at right-back where the 6ft 4ins Essex-born star is being drafted in for Wanderers at first.

Kevin McNaughton’s continued absence with a hamstring injury leaves Freedman with youngsters Hayden White or Oscar Threlkeld to pick from in the forthcoming home double-header.
