ANDY LONERGAN...8 Probably the difference between a point and a defeat. Communication seemed to have improved across the back line.

TIM REAM...5 Once again the American finds himself out of position – and while he persevered, his left-footedness worked against him.

DORIAN DERVITE...7 Only caught out on the rare occasion against an in-form Wednesday front line. Decent on the ball too.

MATT MILLS...7 Like Dervite, came out of the game with credit. One great goal-line clearance in the first half from Maguire.

DEAN MOXEY...4 One goal-line save aside, it was a very poor day in the office for the experienced full-back.

CHUNG-YONG LEE...5 Went missing in the second half after some nice early touches. He simply has to start playing a bigger role.

JAY SPEARING...6 Tried to lead by example and went closest to scoring. But gave the ball away too much in the first half.

OWEN GARVAN...6 Decent enough start for the Palace midfielder, who showed a few neat touches before tiring.

LIAM FEENEY...6 Kept working the wing and earning corners. Never found wanting for effort – but crosses needed to be better at times.

MARK DAVIES...5 The stage was set for someone to go and take the game on. Aside for a few good touches early on, he was largely anonymous.

JOE MASON...5 Ran and ran but provided a small target for the midfield to aim at. Looks to have lost some of the fizz he had on his arrival.

Subs: Pratley 65 (for M Davies) 4 – Poor on the ball.

Beckford 65 (for Garvan) 5 – Didn’t get much of a chance.

C Davies 75 (for Mason) 5 – Couldn’t get into the game.

Not used: Fitzsimons, Danns, Hughes, Medo.

STAR MAN – Andy Lonergan Deserved his first clean sheet of 2014 after stepping into the breach once again for the injured Adam Bogdan.

Lonergan didn’t make any saves he would not have expected to make but lent a sense of calm across the back line, which was sorely needed.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (4-4-2) KEIRAN WESTWOOD...6 LIAM PALMER...6 TOM LEES...8 KAMIL ZAYATTE...6 JOE MATTOCK...6 GILES COKE...6 CHRIS MAGUIRE...7 JOSE SEMEDO...6 JAQUES MAGHOMA...6 ATDHE NUHIU...6 STEVIE MAY...7 Subs: Drenthe 61 (for Maguire) 6 Not used: Kirkland, Buxton, McCabe, Helan, Madine, Dielna.

THEIR STAR MAN – Tom Lees Made some very good challenges and marshalled the Owls back line with authority. The one-time Bury loanee was signed for virtually nothing from Leeds United and looks an absolute steal.
