ONE of the leading candidates to fill the vacant manager’s hot-seat at Wanderers is considering taking a job in the Middle East.

Reports in Scotland claim Neil Lennon, the former Celtic boss, was set for talks with Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad today.

The Northern Irishman, who has been out of work since leaving Parkhead at the end of last season, is understood to have contacted Wanderers earlier this week about the post.

The offer from the Middle East was made some time before Dougie Freedman’s departure last week but Lennon’s decision to fly over for talks is a strong indication that Wanderers have not reciprocated his interest.

Ex-Norwich City boss Chris Hughton is now outright favourite for the job – even-money with some bookmakers – although odds have also shortened overnight on former Leeds United manager Dennis Wise, another name who has thrown his hat into the ring.

Tony Mowbray and Malky Mackay remain in contention, with Phil Gartside looking to make up his mind over the weekend, with a view to making an announcement early next week.

The chairman has filtered down from a list of 24 viable options and wants to speak formally with a small number of candidates in the next 48 hours.
