WANDERERS will finally get some fine tuning as Neil Lennon looks to make the most out of an extended spell at Euxton.

After a whirlwind first fortnight at the club the new boss is intent on using a few unbroken days of training to iron out some of the early kinks.

Two wins out of three represent a solid start from the Northern Irishman, whose side travel to Norwich on Friday evening looking to climb out of the Championship’s relegation zone.

A hectic schedule has meant little time for Lennon to put across his ideas on the training pitch so far – but with four unbroken days before the trip to Carrow Road, he is looking forward to getting down to the nitty-gritty.

“It’s vitally important I’ve got this free week,” he said. “It gives me a bit more time to work with the players and a couple of days to get some tactical work in, which has been difficult to do with all the games coming thick and fast since I came in.

“We changed the shape against Brentford and I thought the players adapted really well to that new foundation.

“Of course you enjoy the game when they come round but I’m still trying to build a platform for the players to understand what it is we really want from them, so having until Friday to do that is really good.”

While Lennon’s goalscorers Neil Danns, Mark Davies and Craig Davies grabbed the headlines after Saturday’s 3-1 win over Brentford, the manager has also given keeper Andy Lonergan a pat on the back for his performances in the last few games.

“He’s added a level of calm, coming for crosses and he’s given the back four a real platform to build on,” he said.

Lennon’s ranks have been boosted by the return of defender David Wheater on Monday night in the development squad’s 1-1 draw against Derby County.

The big defender has been out since hurting his back in a warm-up before a 1-0 defeat at Leeds United on August 30 but came through 90 minutes for Andy Hughes’s side.

Sanmi Odelusi was also back in action after nearly seven months out with a knee ligament problem.

The young striker replaced Conor Wilkinson with four minutes to go.

Max Clayton gave a nudge to his manager with a stunning free-kick against the Rams and there were also outings for first team regulars Medo Kamara, Oscar Threlkeld, Josh Vela, Rob Hall and Liam Trotter.
