WANDERERS Youth graduate Andy Kellett may be far from his Harwood home but admits he is loving life with Plymouth Argyle.

The young left-back has this week seen his loan with the Pilgrims extended for a second month beyond this weekend's League Two clash with Portsmouth.

Kellett turned 21 on Monday and believes the chance for more senior football at Home Park is the ideal present as he drives towards the key to the door of first-team action back with his boyhood club.

Kellett told the Plymouth Herald: "I'm over the moon about having my loan extended.

"It's a chance for me to get more first-team football.

"When I was first told about the loan, straight away I wanted to go because I wanted to play football.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision at all because it’s a big club and I just want to be playing football.

"I felt at home straight away. The lads made me feel very welcome."

Kellett made his Wanderers debut from the bench in a home defeat to Premier League-bound Leicester in April – one of three brief appearances at the end of last season under then Whites boss Dougie Freedman.

But injuries at the start of this season prevented him from being involved again.

The chance for some game time out on loan was snapped up and he has since made five starts for Plymouth – the latest the 2-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Coventry on Wednesday.

Tomorrow's televised league clash with Portsmouth had been scheduled to be his last but now he is staying on for another month.

And he says the brand of football in the basement division, with fellow former Bolton trainee Ollie Norburn also in the ranks, has been something of a surprise after playing mainly for the Wanderers under-21s development squad in his Whites career so far.

Kellett added: "I thought it would have been a lot more long ball but they try to get it on the floor and pass it and move it.

"There are some very good players here and a good team spirit as well.

"It's a great experience and very different for me, but it doesn’t really faze me.

"You can get away with things in the under-21s because it’s a learning experience, but at first-team level your neck is on the line.

"If you make a mistake you can lose three points.”

Like fellow young full-back Joe Riley, who is on loan at Oxford from Wanderers, it is not just Kellett who is benefitting from the switch to League Two.

His manager, former Wanderers midfielder John Sheridan, has also been pleased with his performances.

Sheridan said: "He’s really enjoying it here and he has done really well for us.”

A former academy Player of the Year, Kellett is one of a handful of youngsters out on loan from the Macron Stadium.

Riley (Oxford), Hayden White (Bury) and Georg Iliev (Carlisle) are the others.

Twenty-year-old Iliev has made his league debut for the Cumbrians and also says he is “really excited to get this opportunity to play first-team football and get experience".

The Bulgaria under-19 international has played four games so far and his one-month loan at Brunton Park is due to run out after tomorrow's home game against Accrington Stanley, but there are no plans at present to extend his stay.
