CHUNG-YONG Lee emerged unscathed from a tempestuous friendly game in Iran and should link-up with the Wanderers squad tomorrow.
The South Korea international, who has been in fine form of late, was on the wrong end of a 1-0 score-line in Tehran.
The match was settled by Rubin Kazan’s Sardar Azmoun, who netted six minutes from full time with a controversial close-range header.
The final whistle saw players and staff from both sides square up to each other in the latest chapter of a bad tempered rivalry between two of Asia’s strongest footballing nations.
Chung-Yong, who was rested by his country in last week’s 1-0 win over Ray Wilkins’ Jordan, came through 90 minutes without injury, however, and heads back to Wanderers to prepare for this weekend’s clash against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
That will be music to the ears of Whites boss Neil Lennon, who says his form has been one of the highlights of his first month in charge at the Macron Stadium.
“I knew there was a good core of a squad,” he said.
“What I didn’t know was the South Korean player, Chung-Yong Lee. He’d had a bad leg break and psychologically he was a little scarred from it, but he’s been a revelation in the four or five games that we’ve been in charge.”
Chung-Yong was voted as October’s player of the month by fans who voted on Wanderers’ official website.
