Wanderers v Ipswich Town player ratings

WANDERERS: (3-4-1-2)

ANDY LONERGAN 8

Produced a simply stunning save to deny Tabb, which given Ipswich’s defensive stubbornness might just have earned his side a point.

DORIAN DERVITE 7

Didn’t take long to settle in on the right side and made some crucial interventions as Ipswich bludgeoned the Whites’ penalty box.

MATT MILLS 6

A little sloppy in possession at times and caught flat-footed by McGoldrick but improved as the game wore on to gain control.

DAVID WHEATER 7

Solid return for the Redcar Rock and a clean sheet to boot. Good to see him back in action. Ipswich’s direct game definitely suits him.

LIAM FEENEY 6

Worked hard down the right flank in a slightly unfamiliar role. The only downside of Feeney’s game at present is that final delivery. Inconsistent.

DARREN PRATLEY 5

Struggled to impose himself on the game in the same way he has in recent weeks. Substituted in second half after a nasty bang on the head.

NEIL DANNS 6

Flitted around midfield and was always available for a pass but didn’t make inroads into the penalty box as he does at his very best.

TIM REAM 7

Employed as a left wing-back for a long spell but looked much more comfortable when returning to a more defensive position.

CHUNG-YONG LEE 7

Demanded the ball from his team-mates and looked confident. What a big miss he’ll be in the New Year when he goes to the Asia Cup.

MAX CLAYTON 6

Desperately unlucky. Had bounced off the burly Ipswich defenders and missed one good chance before being carried off with a knee injury.

CONOR WILKINSON 5

Talk about a learning curve. A first Championship start against a tough pairing in Smith and Berra. Kept going but got little change.

Subs: Spearing 5, 28 (for Clayton) – Wasted too much possession; Gudjohnsen 7, 60 (for Pratley) – brought the stadium to life;

Vela 6, 70 (for Wheater) – made one telling challenge on the cover.

Not used: Bogdan, Moxey, Hall, Trotter.

STAR MAN – Andy Lonergan

It’s getting to the stage where you expect the Wanderers number one to make a world class save each week – and so it proved again against Ipswich. Not too many outstanding contributions in a low key affair but Lonergan’s quick thinking to deny Tabb saved a point.

IPSWICH TOWN (4-4-2)

BARTOSZ BIALKOWSKI 6

LUKE CHAMBERS 6

TOMMY SMITH 7

CHRISTOPHE BERRA 8

TYRONE MINGS 6

JAY TABB 7

COLE SKUSE 6

TEDDY BISHOP 8

PAUL ANDERSON 6

DAVID MCGOLDRICK 7

DARYL MURPHY 6

Subs: Bru 6, 72 (for Bishop), N Hunt 5, 78 (for Anderson), Ambrose 5, 88 (for Tabb).

Not used: Gerken, Parr, Clarke, Sammon.

THEIR STAR MAN – Christophe Berra

One of the Championship’s best centre-halves. Dominant in the air, fearless on the floor, the former Wolves man has forged a really effective partnership with Tommy Smith which sums up Mick McCarthy’s no-nonsense Tractor Boys.
