NEIL Lennon has a choice to make in goal ahead of Saturday's home Championship clash against Norwich City – should it be Adam Bogdan or Andy Lonergan who gets the nod?

In recent weeks, the Wanderers boss has had the services of Manchester United loanee Ben Amos and has been that impressed with his form that he has hinted there may be more of him in a Whites shirt next season if the price is right once he leaves Old Trafford as is expected at the end of his contract.

But, fortunately for Lennon, he also has two capable stoppers already on the books – albeit they are also set to be free agents in the summer.

Whoever Lennon decides to be his number one next season, they will be following in a long line of goalkeeping greats who have represented the club.

Dick Pym was arguably the first to make a name for himself between the sticks.

Signed from Exeter in 1921 for a world record fee of £5,000, he was in goal for Wanderers in the first Wembley FA Cup final in 1923 and went on to make more than 300 appearances in a decade with the club.

Pym represented England – as did another Whites goalkeeping legend, Eddie Hopkinson.

Hopkinson spent 18 years with the club and remains the record appearance holder with 578 matches.

In 1971, he was handed a testimonial and Portuguese great Eusebio turned up to play.

In more recent years, the position of Wanderers keeper was made his own by Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The flying Finn, signed by Colin Todd in 1997, also passed the 500-appearance mark in 15 years with the club and is still on the books at West Ham.

If Bogdan, Amos or Lonergan take up the mantle next season, there are some big acts to follow.
