CRAIG Davies hopes the rollercoaster fitness ride he experienced with Wanderers can come to a halt at Wigan Athletic.

The popular striker scored seven goals in the Championship for the Whites last season but failed to fully overcome injury issues, leaving Neil Lennon with little option but to release him in the summer.

Davies has found salvation just down the road at the DW Stadium, however, and is hoping a spell in League One can help him return to top shape.

The Wales international has signed a two-year deal for Gary Caldwell’s men, looking to bounce back after last season’s relegation.

And while Davies appreciates the local rivalry – he sees it as an ideal chance to prove his worth once again.

“Last season was a bit of a roller-coaster," he said. "Whenever I was fit I played but the last couple of months were frustrating with breaking down.

"But I'm just looking to keep working hard and build on keeping myself fit. If can do that then hopefully I'll be playing and I'll do well.

"I'm just going to get my head down, like I did everywhere else, and crack on.

"I know the teams are big rivals. I did enjoy my time at Bolton, I'm not going to lie, but I'm looking to enjoy my time at Wigan as well."
