KAIYNE Woolery was on target for Wanderers’ development squad as they maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City at the Macron Stadium.

In a game lacking in real quality, the former Tamworth winger produced the Whites’ solitary moment of magic with a sweet finish midway through the first half.

Birmingham responded with a fine effort of their own just before half time – but neither side were really able to up their game in the second half and take all three points.

It had been a nondescript start to the game until Woolery lit things up with 23 minutes on the clock, turning midway inside the Birmingham half and out-stripping two defenders for pace before finishing calmly under Jacob Weaver.

He could have had a second a few moments later after Quade Taylor and Jamie Thomas combined to put him through on goal again, only this time his shot was wide of the mark.

Birmingham had posed very little threat going forward but drew level just before half time when Wes McDonald found space to cut in from the left and blast a fierce right-footed effort into the roof of the net past Ross Fitzsimons.

The game briefly looked like picking up from pace after the restart with Fitzsimons making a smart stop from Charlee Adams at one end before George Newell was denied by Weaver at the other.

Birmingham had the better of the second half and the dangerous McDonald went close again with another powerfully-struck shot.

But the football from both sides was rather bitty and clear-cut chances at a premium.

Spanish midfielder Jon Ceberio had one decent effort blocked at the end after he had replaced Thomas but on the whole, neither side deserved to go on and win it.
