Marc Iles gives his Bolton Wanderers Player's Ratings after the clash against Reading

BEN AMOS 6

Made a fine save from Blackman’s bouncing volley in the second half but showed a few nerves early on when he spilled McCleary’s cross.

JOSH VELA 6

Steady and by no means over-run on the left side by Piazon and Taylor, Vela didn’t really see enough of the ball to cause damage the other way DAVID WHEATER 7 One of the few players who seems to be impressing on a weekly basis and getting the basics right. Did everything he needed to do defensively .

PRINCE-DESIRE GOUANO 5.5

His first half mistake paved the way for the first-half collapse, which was a shame, as he defended well for the rest of the game.

JOSE MANUEL CASADO 6.5

Another reliable sort who is doing the job he is being asked to do. There’s very few frills about the Spaniard but that’s what Wanderers need at the moment.

JAY SPEARING 4

Simply not good enough for a player of his calibre. Too many passes went astray. The team needs more from the former skipper.

NEIL DANNS 5.5

Industrious, tried to get about Reading but made little impact. Should have done better from an angle after Ameobi’s first half header.

DARREN PRATLEY 5.5

A bit more like himself but too often broke out of midfield to find he had exactly no support. Still not the hustling, bustling Pratley of old.

MARK DAVIES 4

Nigh on anonymous for most of the game but his poor pass and then inability to keep the midfield shape also led to the second goal.

LIAM FEENEY 6

Created a couple of good chances and had the bottle to take and score the penalty. Still seems to be labouring under pressure – but far from the worst.

SHOLA AMEOBI 5.5

Put himself around but didn’t seem to be on the same wavelength as his midfield. Unlucky with the first header but should have buried the second.

Subs: Madine 65 (for Ameobi) – Showed up for his team 6 Clayton 65 (for Spearing) – Struggled to get involved 5 Heskey 77 (for Davies) – Didn’t make an impact 5 Not used: Rachubka, Dervite, Wilson, Twardzik.
