WANDERERS Under-21s' winless run stretched to six matches when they lost 2-1 at Huddersfield Town yesterday.

Young striker Kaiyne Woolery scored the Whites' goal in West Yorkshire to draw the visitors level but an Alex Finney own goal secured all three U21 Professional Development League 2 points for the table-topping Terriers.

Coach Iain Brunskill named a strong side at the John Smith's Stadium with first-teamers Derik Osede, Francesco Pisano and Tom Walker joining recent loan signing from Manchester City, Luke Brattan, in the starting XI.

It was the hosts who had the first chance of the game but Rekeil Pyke was unable to find the target with a header.

But the Whites responded and Rob Holding saw a far-post volley land on the roof of the net from Walker's free kick before the latter tried his luck, cutting in from the right wing to send an effort just the wrong side of the post.

Brattan saw an effort saved before Jamie Thomas – back from Wales Under-19 duty – went close with a free-kick from distance.

The hosts had chances of their own and broke the deadlock just before half time when Ronan Coughlan beat Harry Campbell, converting a low Duane Holmes cross.

After the interval, Wanderers were back on level terms quickly when Woolery burst forward to fire home into the bottom corner for his fifth development squad goal of the campaign.

He could have netted a sixth, too, after good link-up play with Thomas and Walker but his effort was palmed round the post by home stopper Tadhg Ryan.

Whites substitute Jon Ceberio was also thwarted by Ryan as Brunskill's side pressed for a winner.

But Huddersfield had good fortune when defender Finney diverted a low cross past Campbell to put the hosts back in front.

Thomas could have levelled it again but for another good save from Ryan while Woolery saw a stoppage-time strike fly over the bar.

The U21s are next in action next Tuesday night when they host Barnsley.

Meanwhile, Wanderers Under-18s are in action today when they welcome Morecambe to the Eddie Davies Academy in a Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup tie.
