NEIL Danns made his playing return for Wanderers under-21s after a month out yesterday but could not help Iain Brunskill’s side avoid a 1-0 defeat at Oakwell.
The midfielder has made just two starts since December 12 but has been sidelined with a stomach injury in recent weeks.
He played alongside first teamers Tom Walker, Derik Osede and Filip Twardzik in a strong side that struggled to make the breakthrough in wet Yorkshire conditions.
Jamie Thomas twice went through on goal in the first half only to lose out to goalkeeper Nick Townsend.
The Wales youth international also had a good penalty shout turned down shortly after the restart.
But the Tykes snatched victory towards the end as a cross-shot from Otis Khan looped over Harry Campbell.
Wanderers: Campbell, Maher, Twardzik (Garratt 70), Phillips, Derik, Finney, Cvetko, Danns (Ceberio 76), Newell (Likoy-Elumba 68), Walker, Thomas.
Not used: Turner, Spooner.
