WANDERERS Under-21s ended their debut U21 Professional Development League 2 campaign on a high note after a 2-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

Two first-half penalties from George Newell sealed the points for Iain Brunskill's side in South Yorkshire.

Starting with a team including several youngsters with first-team experience, including Tom Walker, Alex Finney and Alex Samizadeh, Wanderers looked sharp and could have won by more but for some near misses by Walker and Jamie Thomas.

But Newell's two spot-kicks – on 20 and 40 minutes – proved enough to down the Owls.

The development squad are back in action on Tuesday, May 3 when they host Manchester City EDS in the semi-final of the Manchester Senior Cup they won last year – against the Blues.
