WANDERERS have announced it will be pay-on-the-day when they host Everton’s Under-23s in the controversial Checkatrade Trophy next week.

The tie, which will be played on Tuesday, August 30, will kick off at 7pm and will cost all fans just £5 to watch.

No advanced tickets will be sold and only the West Stand Lower, Blocks A and D, will be open for home supporters. Turnstiles will open at 6.15pm.

Wanderers have made their feelings clear on the admission of Category One academy teams into the competition and voted against the proposed changes at the Football League meeting in Portugal over the summer.

They will be forced, however, to field a “full strength” team under EFL rules, or risk fines of up to £5,000.

Sources at the club are steeling themselves for what could be their lowest gate for a competitive fixture.

Just 3,673 fans watched a League Cup second-round tie against Gillingham in 1999, which remains their lowest attendance at the new stadium in either its Reebok or Macron form. Looking back a little further in the record books, Burnden Park’s lowest gate was 1,507 for an Autoglass Trophy game against Rochdale in 1991. For the record, Wanderers won both games.

Meanwhile, defensive pair Mark Beevers and David Wheater will be making an appearance at Bolton Central to sign autographs and pose for pictures with supporters.

The club is offering £5 of “Wanderers Cash” to be spent on club products for anyone who purchases a new replica kit or mini-kit over the Bank Holiday period.
