JAMIE Proctor admits Wanderers are turning into a bunch of moaners – but with good reason!

Making no excuses for defeat against Walsall, a performance he concedes was “not good enough against 10 men,” the Whites striker was still left puzzled by a number of decisions made by referee Trevor Kettle and his assistants on Saturday.

Life in League One has been an exercise in frustration for Wanderers which continued at the Banks’s Stadium, not least with Keshi Anderson’s crazy red card in injury time.

Phil Parkinson sent a DVD of refereeing errors to Football League chief David Allison last week and Proctor is well aware of how other clubs may perceive Wanderers’ protestations.

“I suppose I’m used to it over the years, but as a team and group of staff it seems we’re constantly moaning,” he told The Bolton News.

“Some of the decisions again (at Walsall), you look back and wonder what happened? I went up for the ball again today and got two hands in my back, I can’t see what that’s not a penalty.

“You can’t say too much. It’s frustrating because you don’t want to moan and when you look at it from the outside people will probably think ‘oh look at Bolton again, they should have had this and that’ but when you are on the pitch and these things are going against you, it’s extremely disappointing.

“I don’t know who the person is who can change it – it’s certainly not me or any of the lads, probably not the manager, but something needs to be looked at.”

The feeling of injustice felt by Wanderers in recent weeks has been magnified by a run of four games without a win, including three draws.

Proctor still believes that the first eight games of the season can be considered a success, however, with the club still sitting pretty in second place in the League One table.

“It’s difficult because there is a little bit of doom and gloom at the minute in terms of we’ve drawn the last few and lost against Walsall,” he said.

“But I think overall if you’d have asked the players, the fans or the staff if we would want to be second after eight games, we would have happily accepted that.

“It’s a good start to the season. There are positives, negatives and there is a lot to work on.

“We believe we can stay up there and will be doing everything we can to make it happen.”

Proctor had three golden chances at Walsall to make the breakthrough but was thwarted by some magnificent goalkeeping from Neil Etheridge.

One second-half save in particular left the former Bradford City striker starring in disbelief.

“I looked back at that save and I don’t know how he did it, to be honest.,” he said. “He must have won man of the match from that save alone.

“His body was going one way and he managed to save the ball going the other way and it sums up my luck a little bit at the moment.

“We did everything except put the ball in the back of the net. We gave it a good go but that’s expected – you should do that in any game – so there isn’t much to take away from it, really.

“They got men behind the ball, the keeper pulled off some great saves but ultimately we’re disappointed we weren’t successful.

“We needed, as a team, to really put them on the back foot in the final few minutes and have a real go at them. But it didn’t happen.

“We have to put it behind us now as quickly as possible.”
