WANDERERS legend Kevin Davies has offered his help to former club Chesterfield as they search for a new manager.

The Spireites sacked Danny Wilson at the weekend, just 23 days after beating Phil Parkinson’s side at the Proact Stadium.

They have since lost three of their last four games and dropped to 22nd position in the League One table.

Before playing more than 400 games for Bolton, Davies had cut his teeth in professional football with Chesterfield and helped them to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1997.

The Derbyshire club have endured months of boardroom upheaval as owner Dave Allen continues to try and sell up and saw four directors resign their roles in November.

But Davies is keen to get back into football after hanging up his boots in September 2015 and has since passed his UEFA A Licence. Further talks are expected tonight.

“I have been in touch with Ritchie Humphreys and one of the officials over there and basically said if I can help him in any way, just say the word and I’ll be there,” he told The Bolton News.

“Chesterfield is a club I’m obviously very fond of and if I can assist them, long or short-term then I’d be very willing to do it.

“I have been in touch with them recently over one or two things, with it being the anniversary of the FA Cup semi-final this year.

“Some of the issues at board level are common knowledge and if there is something I can do on that front, add any stability, then I can certainly do my bit.

“I am not looking to tread on toes. I don’t know if Ritchie wants the job, or what direction they are looking to go on with the manager’s role.

“But I’ve had conversations with Chesterfield and they know my thoughts. We’ll see what happens from here on in.”
