SUPERSUB Rob Fletcher was the matchwinner for third-placed Top Club as they beat Hulton Wanderers 3-2 to keep their title hopes alive in the Bolton at Home Sunday League Division One

The game started at an electric pace and in the 10th minute Top Club’s Travis Vaughan began the new year as he ended 2016 by firing an excellent 25-yard strike into the top corner, giving Hulton stopper Kieron Hodgeson no chance.

This sparked Hulton into life and with 20 minutes gone Chris Farrell equalised with a 25-yard free kick past keeper Tom Ashton.

Just before half time, an excellent passing move ended with Farrell scoring his second to give Hulton the advantage at the midway point.

It was open again after the interval and it was all square again midway through the second period, when Top Club were awarded an indirect free kick just outside the box and Tom Jones teed up Ben Givern who smashed the ball into the corner of the net.

With 15 minutes to go, on came Fletcher and not long after he beat his marker to a hopeful Tom Jones ball into the Hulton box and flicked it over the keeper before smashing home the winner.

In Division Two the shock of the day saw bottom side Church Reds beat leaders Manny Road 2-1.

Manny Road led at half time thanks to an excellent strike by the consistent Lee Hemmings.

However, Church Reds manager Gabriella Magari must have given her team a superb half-time talk as they came out with all guns blazing.

Midway through the second half they got an equaliser through Kamil Demiter and with five minutes to go, Dave Barlow netted the Reds' winner.

Manny Road's slip might have cost them more had second-placed Westhoughton or Deane FC, in third, took advantage but they played out a 4-4 draw at Westhoughton.

The hosts' goals came from Dorken (two), Howarth and Hughes while Karl Dumbarton (two), Nathan Hatton and Dave Stewart netted for Deane FC.

Atherton Villa kept up their fine form with their seventh consecutive victory against Bradford Arms B as they ran out 4-1 winners.

Villa's goals came from Ryan Ballard (two) and Liam Wayne (two) with Anthony Heighway relying for Bradford Arms B.
