PHIL Parkinson is not concerned his players will run out of steam in Sunday’s promotion showdown.

Wanderers stand on the verge of making an immediate return to the Championship but must gain a result against Peterborough United at the Macron.

Parkinson’s men were seconds away from glory at Port Vale last weekend before Fleetwood’s late winner forced the issue into the final 90 minutes.

But the manager is not worried there will be any after-effects as they look to get the job done in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

“Having the whole week to prepare is important but I think the lads are looking in good shape,” he told The Bolton News. “I don’t have any problems on that front.

“We went to Port Vale – one of the biggest pitches in the league – and controlled the game. We adapted, got the distances between the units right and passed it well too, which was crucial against 10 men.

“We don’t have to worry about anyone else’s score now. Yes, it was a bit of a let-down to see Fleetwood’s result in the end but it’s a positive that two good sides, Bradford and Scunthorpe, were eliminated. I think Scunny would have been a particularly dangerous side going into the last weekend.

“I’m pleased it’s a two-horse race. And even more pleased we’ve got a two-point start. We’re in control.”

Peterborough’s inconsistent season was done and dusted weeks ago but Grant McCann’s side showed they still have some life in them with a 4-2 home win against Bristol Rovers. The onus is on Wanderers, and Parkinson reckons they can handle the responsibility.

“It’s difficult when the pressure is on, especially against a team people expect you to beat,” he said.

“That was the case against Port Vale but I think it bodes well for the Peterborough game that we seemed capable of handling it.

“Now we’ve got to work until the ref blows his whistle on the last game of the season but I’ve been there before as a player and a manager and it’s about keeping cool, concentrating on showing the qualities we have all season.”
