JOEY O’Brien is no longer training with Wanderers, The Bolton News understands.
The former Republic of Ireland international had spent several weeks with Phil Parkinson’s squad and made two appearances in the development squad as a trialist.
But we have learned the former West Ham man is looking to do further injury rehab before looking to continue his career.
O’Brien started out in professional football at Wanderers in the Premier League but had two serious knee injuries and left the club in 2011 after 50 league appearances.
He signed for West Ham, then under the stewardship of Sam Allardyce, and played for another five years in the capital before his release in 2016.
O’Brien played 91 league games for the Hammers.
