GARY Megson has apologised to supporters who were upset that they were denied the traditional end-of-season "lap of honour".
The Wanderers players saluted the crowd individually after they signed off with a crucial 2-0 victory over Sunderland, but there was no organised salute - as there has been in previous years - which has led to complaints from some fans.
Megson said it was inappropriate to celebrate when they were still not mathematically safe from the threat of relegation, but insisted it was not intended as a "slight" on the fans.
"The supporters here are very much appreciated by myself, the staff and the players, and I apologise on behalf of everybody," he said. "But I'm sure they understand there is still work to be done."
Of the lack of an organised celebration to mark the end of the season, he said: "These things have to be planned. Players stayed about afterwards but, we are where we are, and there's nothing to be charging round the pitch about. Everybody will be pleased if we can stay in this division, but it's not over yet."

Some people just want to whinge for whingeing's sake. Re Colin Harvey. Is there any law against appointing someone you have worked with in the past? Nobody complained about BSA appointing Phil Brown or Jimmy Phillips etc etc, but if you win a few games you can do what you want, if you dont whatever you do is wrong.
to be honest he has a point, however it was yet another pr clanger, have you thought about appointing 'max clifford' (on second thoughts), as i'm well known for being against megson, i'd like to back it up with facts, as a rule over a career wins and losses well outweigh draws, however in megsons managerial career and consistantly throughout i may add, he has drawn matches, in fact such a draw specialist is he that he may reach 200 draws in his managerial career before he reaches 200 wins, a remarkable if somewhat boring achievement. stats can lie but i think this is another pointer, or should i say one pointer towards the football we should expect. another comment on another thread refers to colin harveys appointment, is he still there and what does he do, i thought he'd retired years ago, colin harvey was a first class assistant and manager in the 80's and 90's he has never been a chief scout, again smacks of nepotism as megson probably played when harvey was around at everton, so no doubt is returning some favour, dont know what he does and havent even heard nowt from him, no doubt he will be taking credit for all our signings and blaming bsa and lsl for the ones he doesnt make, bsa appointed a lot of unknowns but they were based on talent to do specialist jobs, i know we had one of the biggest backroom staffs in the history of football! but it worked, appoint talent create talent!

Would agree there was no cause to do it. Escaping relegation at the end of the season is not cause for a lap of honour. Players chose to do it themselves, that's not a problem. They know what the situation is regarding contracts. One thing that might have been an idea would have been to announce it over the tannoy that none would take place, apart from the fact we had no sound from it in the East Stand on Saturday. On another note. Has anyone seen that Sky are placing all emphasis on Wigan getting beaten on Sunday and taking it as a certainty that we will lose to Chelsea.

They should have done the lap on Sunday. It's a way of the players saying thatkyou to the fans...they should be more appreciative this year, as we have stuck by them through a series of pretty poor performances. The PA system not working was a real pain... no idea what was going on. What if there had been a safety announcement? Bring back the fireworks at the start of the match....might bring us a bit of luck :-)

And if Megson has no intention of offering them another contract, it might be irrelevant, who says Megson will still be here? I live in hope that Megson goes and the new manager sees sense and gives Stelios another 2 year deal. He is as fit and impressive as Gary Speed was at the same age, certainly fitter than a lot of players in the team who are younger than him. I'm not sure why we would say "bye" to Diouff when he is under contract and I would be surprised if anyone came in with a high enough bid (£5 mil plus?). It just seems inappropriate to be waving off players that we would prefer to keep.
I agree with Matty - we should have been able to say goodbye to Dioufy, Jussi, Stelios etc. They have been good for our club. I felt aggrieved when we didn't get to say goodbye to Jay Jay. I know we have not much to be proud of this year or much to celebrate its not a lap of honour its a thank you to the fans who have stuck around.

There have been a lot of mistakes made this season, but credit where its due, I would hope this could be put down to listening to the fans. Its almost becoming a pleasure to attend the Reebok these days, the only embarrassment is Megson's team selection but at least its improving off the pitch.

Some people just make up lies to justify their irratioanl hatred of Megson and the board. The firworks were stopped in the wake of a Wolves fan being hit in the face by one at Molineux. If part tim esupporters want to say goodbye to the heroes like Campo, Jussi and Stelios, they've had plenty of opportunities. But the ground's been half full for most of the season so you can't complain now. Being a fan is supposed to cost you something. You don't just turn up on the last day of the season, have a sing song in the sun and then demand the right to spout forth innaccurate opinions on here.

I cringed when we were lucky enough to score on Match of the Day etc. At the time they could play Glory Glory Man Utd and I wouldnt care due to the thrill of scoring, but when you see re-runs - NO!! Music is only played at small clubs, and I dont want us advertising the fact that we are small time. Ditto the Very Very Loud music played over the PA System at 2.50 to 3.00 every match - I think that has mercifully been toned down - and the chaps waving the flags (God I've had stick for that from fans of other clubs). I just dont get all this razzmattazz. But credit where its due, the club appears to have acted on feedback on this - or was I the only one using every opportunity I got to tell the club where they could shove the fireworks/music/flag
I think that the fireworks (and the music when the goals were scored) where stopped in order to usher in a new era. I quite enjoyed having a sing along to Amirillo (or whatever) when we scored a goal. They can't have stopped the music due to finances. Apart from that, how much do a few fireworks cost? probably less than it's costs them to wine and dine our local councillers before the match

Chelsea are every bit as bad as United in every way. Their owner is a shady scumbag. Their manager hates the small clubs. Their fans don't come from their local area. They're wrecking football by paying huge prices. So why exactly should I be desparate to see my side lose to them, even when we're not safe?

Not sure about the kit story. As far as I remember, the current deal lasts until next year and a provisional extension was agreed until 2016 in line with stadium naming rights...
