Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho faces a race to be fit in time for their crucial game against Bolton on Sunday.
Carvalho limped out of their victory over Newcastle on Monday afternoon after twice falling heavily on his back.
The Portuguese international underwent intensive treatment on the injury and is desperate to be fit in time to face Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea know that a result which betters Manchester United's on the final day of the season will earn them the title.
Carvalho has become a vital member of the side and has not been on the losing side in the last 42 league games he has played in.
It is a run that stretches back to Chelsea's away defeat at Tottenham in November 2006.
Striker Salomon Kalou is also struggling with an ankle injury but he should be fit in time.
Meanwhile, England left-back Ashley Cole, rested for their win over Newcastle on Monday, believes Bolton will not make it easy for them.
"Bolton will be coming to the Bridge wanting to win whether they are safe or not, we'll be so focused and determined to beat them," said Cole.
"We have a lot of big players with big hearts and everyone wants to win. We have to win because it would be a killer if Manchester United got a draw and we didn't get a result."
lPORTSMOUTH boss Harry Redknapp is unlikely to risk David James in Sunday's final Premiership game against survival-chasing Fulham.
James has been cleared to play in the FA Cup Final on Saturday week after scans allayed fears over the calf problem that has kept him out of the last two league games.
But Redknapp is expected to take no chances in a game that means little to Pompey but could have a major bearing on the relegation issue with Fulham, currently fourth bottom, knowing a win would see them safe. The outcome of the Fratton Park clash could also have an impact on Wanderers in the unlikely event that their result at Chelsea and Reading's final game at Derby go so horribly wrong that Steve Coppell's Royals breach the current gap of 11 in their respective goal differences.

You just know that St Nic will come on and score, although rumour has it he's injured. Anyone know any more?

according to the daily mirror, sheff utd's chris morgan is once again being linked with moving to BWFC....why are we thinking of signing a 31 yr old defender???

Signing Rasiak directly weakened us up front because by playing him, or having him on the bench, we denied ourselves the chance to have a better player in the squad. It will be similar when Joey O'Brien is fit - it will be like losing another player because he will get in the squad ahead of someone who might be able to tackle and pass a ball or even shoot.
I am looking forward to see who we sign. cahill, steinsson and taylor have all been great assets to the team. Cohen and rasiak are rubbish in a nutshell but we did need a striker and were desperate and with the board not willing to splash the cash this was one of the only people we could get. If Megson does stay he will be judged on his signings so lets just hope he gets the cash and get some great signings.

trottersforever wrote:I dont particularly rate Chris Morgan (but I didnt rate Andy O'Brien either and he's been superb) but I dont understand the relevance of age. I would be more than happy if we signed Hyypia, we should never have got rid of Speed, and we shouldnt be getting rid of Stelios. I would go for quality every time, age is irrelevant especially when the transfer fee is negligible. I can never understand why everyone gets so obsessed with age, when the younger players (Joey O'B/Nolan etc) are clearly less fit than many in their 30s.

But we give him a chance and i feel that he failed. Luckily the team noticed that we needed to win. And we did!!! Now i heard that someone said we wer singin ginger mourinioh but i dont remember anyone singin it. Bolton are a great club and we need to keep old of Jussi Stelios and Campo. Also AOB Cahill and steinsson very good signings. Diouf wants to move to a premier league club as he has told a lot of boltoners. Nolan is boltons biggest player. The main example of this was the game against liverpool. first alf we wer outstanding nolan got injured and we lost shape. He may not be the skinniest player in the prem but hes one of the best midfielders and loyal midfielders to ever wear a bolton shirt. We need 2 strikers and 2 centre midfielders and a left back and 2 cover centre backs. We will be midtable next season if we do this.

Diouff goes then we have no class, no creation and no hope. We just have another season of total long ball crap and gravy train cash spin off if the club are lucky, for those in a position to grab the Murdoch cash. This is lower Premiership reality for we season ticcket holders. Megson OUT!

But they play for Chelsea and get away with it week in week out.
Neither will relish a battle with Kevin Davies .
Come on Kev give them a taste of their own medicine.
