Wanderers squeezed into the last 16 of the FA Cup for the third season running, even though the margin of victory should have been much more comfortable against a much-changed Swansea.

Brendan Rodgers had made 10 alterations to the team beaten by Sunderland in the Premier League last weekend, and it showed early on as Chris Eagles, David Ngog and Martin Petrov all wasted decent chances.

Despite their domination, Owen Coyle’s side found themselves a goal down when Luke Moore spun past David Wheater and produced a neat finish over Adam Bogdan two minutes before the interval.

But Wanderers’ reply was instant – as Martin Petrov curled a free kick in for the unmarked Darren Pratley to head home his first goal for the club, against the team he left on a Bosman transfer in the last summer.

Chris Eagles then put the Whites into the lead on 55 minutes with his fifth strike of the season when Swans keeper Gerhard Tremmel spilled Petrov’s stinging shot into his path six yards out.

Leroy Lita rattled the woodwork with a stinging effort from an acute angle for the visitors before Pratley came close to a second, his looping header bouncing off the bar.

Substitute Danny Graham then came within a hair’s breadth of snatching a replay as his close range header bounced off the post with six minutes to go.
