Wanderers won their third consecutive Premier League game to give themselves a massive boost in their fight against relegation.

The Whites haven't won a hat-trick of games since 2006, and with all five goals coming in the second half, they were forced to do it the hard way against bottom club Wolves.

After Michael Kightly had given the home side a lead, Martin Petrov equalised from the spot.

Marcos Alonso and Kevin Davies made it 3-1, but Matt Jarvis's late effort made for a tense finale.

Wanderers must wonder how they reached the break with the scoreline still goal-less, as Wolves attacked at will down the wings with Matt Jarvis and Michael Kightly.

Steven Fletcher was very much the focal point, and it took only five minutes before he had forced Adam Bogdan into action.

Fletcher came closer still when Ryo Miyaichi hooked another powerful header off his own line, and a hat-trick of near misses was complete just before the break when another aerial battle was won, only for the ball to skim the crossbar.

Wanderers had been very much on the back foot for much of the half but could have snatched the lead when Martin Petrov's subtle touch from David Ngog's flick took the Bulgarian in on goal, only for his volley to dip just over the goal.

Signs of tension from the home side were evident, however, and keeper Wayne Hennessey and his defender Roger Johnson clashed after Ivan Klasnic had lashed a shot in on goal.

After enduring such pressure, the Whites had a glorious chance to take the lead soon after the restart when David Wheater headed narrowly wide from Myiaichi's cross.

Instead, it was the home side who broke the deadlock when Nigel Reo-Coker gave the ball away in midfield, Ebanks-Blake spread it wide to Kightly, who cut inside Marcos Alonso to curl a lovely shot inside the far post.

It didn't take long for Wanderers to muster a response though, and 10 minutes later, Mark Davies went to ground in the penalty box after a sprawling challenge from Johnson.

Referee Jon Moss pointed straight to the spot, much to the Wolves fans' chagrin, and Martin Petrov did the rest, blasting into the bottom corner. He then revealed a message of support on his T-shirt for countryman Stilyan Petrov, who has just been diagnosed with leukaemia.

The winger nearly doubled his personal tally a couple of minutes later when he snapped a shot towards goal, well blocked by Hennessey.

Wanderers were visibly growing in confidence, and nine minutes from time, Alonso landed the killer blow.

Petrov put another fine cross into the box, headed powerfully against the post by Ngog, but mopped up by the young Spaniard for his first goal in English football.

When Kevin Davies calmly stroked home the third goal seven minutes from time it seemed impossible to think that the Whites were not heading for a third straight win.

The skipper collected Chris Eagles' pass from the left and slotted home his second goal of the week to seemingly make the game safe.

Yet Wolves rallied to pull a goal back through Matt Jarvis, who pounced on Fletcher's flick to give his side hope.

Hennessey made another excellent stop to deny Petrov, and there was still time for a couple of heart in mouth moments as Wolves threw the ball into the box at every opportunity.

But Wanderers held firm to register a vital three points.
