Wanderers dropped to second bottom of the Premier League after failing to claim a much-needed win against Swansea City.

Owen Coyle's men got off to the worst possible start, falling behind in the fifth minute when Leon Britton found Scott Sinclair on the left and he breezed inside to curl a superb shot past Adam Bogdan into the top corner.

The Swans' lead did last, however, and just seven minutes later Martin Petrov swung a great cross in towards Chris Eagles to sweep home his sixth goal of the campaign.

Martin Petrov came close to a second when his low free kick was curled round the wall and palmed away superbly by Michel Vorm – but, in truth, that was as hard as the Dutch keeper had to work for the rest of the game.

Wanderers were forced into some last ditch defending at times, and when Swansea did get a clear sight at goal, it thankfully fell to centre halves Ashley Williams and Steven Caulker, who both put decent chances woefully wide.

It was one way traffic for most of the second half, with Brendan Rogers' men in almost complete control.

Bogdan made a good save at the feet of Danny Graham, but could do nothing but watch a few moments later as the same player curled a shot from the edge of the box that bounced off the bar.

Coyle threw on both David Ngog and Ivan Klasnic from the bench for Kevin Davies and Ryo Miyaichi and the Whites finally sparked into life in the final 10 minutes.

Ngog had a clear sight of goal, only to dally too long before trying to get his shot away, and Klasnic teed up a shot from Eagles that was drilled agonisingly wide.

Josh Vela came off the bench for his debut with seconds remaining – but of more worry to Wanderers fan could be the sight of Mark Davies limping down the tunnel at the full time whistle.

Blackburn's victory over Norwich magnified the disappointment that echoed around the Reebok at the final whistle after a result that puts significant pressure on Tuesday's trip to Aston Villa.
