FORMER Wanderer Fabrice Muamba believes the cardiac arrest he suffered on the pitch at Tottenham may have been caused by pushing himself too far the previous summer.

On holiday in America, Muamba admits he trained up to seven hours a day for a fortnight to be in peak condition ahead of a return to pre-season training with the Whites in 2011.

But, in an interview to be screened on ITV4 tonight at 10pm, the retired midfielder concedes that may have played a part in his collapse last March.

Muamba told ITV: “I pushed myself too far, last season before the pre-season.

“I went away to America for two weeks just to work, work, work, you know – just physically to work and get myself in a good condition to come back and play in the Premier League again.

“I was fit but I wanted to be even fitter, I wanted to come back even fitter than the other guys. I think I pushed myself very, very far to the point where, maybe, I went too far with it.”
