WANDERERS boss Dougie Freedman is adamant his team has the mental strength to overcome their current inability to hang on to a lead.

In nine Championship games this season, the Whites have surrendered a lead to drop a whopping 21 points.

They are points that would have seen them top of the table instead of a lowly 18th and almost as near to the drop zone as the play-off places.

Four of those matches have come under Freedman’s reign against Blackpool, Barnsley, Ipswich and Huddersfield – in fact, they twice led at Blackpool before being forced to settle for a point.

The last two matches have seen late goals deny Wanderers more priceless points but Freedman has been far from unhappy with the performances and is sure things will turn around.

He said: “Against Ipswich for 70 minutes I thought we were fantastic but could not kill the game off. “That has been a problem for us.

“I think the players are mentally strong, though, because they played in the Premier League and that is a tough league.

“So I don’t think that’s the issue, it’s just maybe the confidence in needng to see a game out.

“I think anybody that watches us play can see we are creating opportunities and playing better.

“The freshness in the team is good and hopefully the changes are working and bringing out enthusiasm in everyone to do well for the team.

“We just need to start seeing games out when we are in front.”
