WANDERERS boss Dougie Freedman has revealed West Brom and England Under-21 defender Craig Dawson is the sort of player that fits the bill for his January shopping list.

The 22-year-old Lancastrian was yesterday linked with a possible move to Wanderers from Albion, possibly on a loan deal with the Baggies set to want a fee in the region of £3million for his services.

And the Whites boss has confirmed the ex-Rochdale and Radcliffe Borough defender is a player he admires and would not rule out a move for him when the window opens.

He wants to strengthen the centre of his defence with David Wheater and Matt Mills currently sidelined and admits Dawson is the type of player he likes, someone young but with experience of Championship level and higher.

Commenting on the Team GB Olympic team player, Freedman said: “Craig Dawson is a player I admire.

“I have seen him a lot when he has played for England Under-21s.

“We just need to make sure the right type of player comes in here.

“We need someone who wants to come and play for Bolton, not that we are doing them a favour.

“These are the types of players I am looking for and Craig certainly fits that bill.

“He has links with the area but that isn’t the reason we would be interested.

“We want a player who views this club in a way that they would walk here to play in front of the fans at the Reebok and move heaven and earth to play for us.”

While Dawson looks like being on the Freedman radar, there is still no movement on a return for Stephen Warnock after his initial loan ended last week.

Freedman is hopeful he can come back but says the club are waiting on the player’s next move after making their intentions clear to the Aston Villa defender.

The Whites boss added: “We have tried with Stephen and are just waiting for an answer from him.

“He has done well for us but there is a small issue with him resolving a problem with Villa before he can give us an answer, so we are no closer.”
